I love thinking back to my Navy days, especially on a day like today. One particular memory was being on the USS Joseph Hewes, a fast frigate. We were suppose to get underway but something was wrong with the engines. The captain refused to give liberty call in fear that the engineers would slow down in order to be able to leave the ship. One of my jobs was ordering and storing food items. I ordered food from around town and had my wife and small daughter meet me at the pier. We spent the day together going from store to store getting all the food supplies needed. Oh, that was such a precious day. Liberty call was granted that night and we sailed the next day.
